Get A Puppy Or A Dog: Some Reasons To Consider

If you adopt an adult dog, anywhere from a year or 2 to a senior, the chances are that the issues of being housebroken, leash trained will be over (although not always). Adult dogs can have other issues also. For instance, the dog may have never got obedience trained. Or taught manners, or get socialized.

It is an excellent idea, when you want to adopt/rescue, to have a list of things which are essential to you and your family, household, lifestyle, daily schedule, etc., so you can talk with the adoption manager about the type of companion you’ve got in mind. Even if you don’t care about size, hair, breed type, color, chances are you have an idea of the personality or activities you want to share, whether you wish to participate in dog sports like agility, obedience, dock diving, rally, etc.

Sometimes it can be helpful and enlightening to volunteer at your local shelter, to not only get to see and interact with a lot of dogs but also to become familiar with what seems to tug at your heartstrings! Or contact rescue groups (You can google dog rescue groups in your area). And be a foster parent for dogs who are waiting to get adoption. Or who are in need of some temporary housing either for medical reasons. Or to get over an injury – or foster a litter of rescued puppies until they are old enough to get adoption. Fostering is fun, rewarding, and you can learn a lot about dogs – and your preferences!

Pros And Cons Of Each

There are pros and cons to each.

A puppy is a clean sheet, it may have inherited issues, but you will be responsible for its behavior throughout its life since you will be one doing the training and socialization. An adult dog may come with hidden fears; hating children, chases cats, has separation anxiety – all of which gets cured. But you will need help, time, and patience to do so.

Puppies need attention at least every two hours, an adult dog will have better bladder control but may resist house training if it has lived in a Kennel all its life.

Puppies chew and are destructive, especially when teething. However, an adult dog may have also developed a chewing habit, with powerful teeth.

There is excellent satisfaction in taking on a rescue enabling the charity to help another dog in need. Be careful if you buy a pup that you are not supporting a puppy farm.

Its such as you learn my thoughts! You appear to grasp a lot about this,
such as you wrote the ebook in it or something. I feel that you
just can do with some p.c. to drive the message home a little
bit, but other than that, that is magnificent blog. An excellent read.
    I will certainly be back.
