Sweet Achilles came to us from an overcrowded shelter in Miami, where he sadly ended up after what was obviously an incredibly rough journey. One of our amazing rescue partners gave this boy the second chance he otherwise would not have had.
His body was riddled with masses and he was suffering from a condition that ultimately cost him his right eye.
Achilles already had a few low-grade mast cell tumors removed, and while some were removed with clean margins there are still concerns about two of them. We're monitoring these sites carefully as there is a 50% chance that these tumors will grow back. If they return it's likely that he'll be a candidate for a specialized, nonsurgical treatment. We've also sent off samples of a few more suspicious lumps and bumps and will have more information once the results come back.
This sweet boy is now at Animal Haven where he is receiving the love and care that he deserves after such a rough life. Despite it all, Achilles is an absolute mush of a dog and he's already wagged his way into all of our hearts.
At 10-years-old, this angel is in need of a loving hospice home for the time he has left, however long that may be. Animal Haven will cover the costs of his ongoing medical care, we just want to make sure he spends the rest of his time on earth surrounded by love, and in a home where he belongs. He loves all the humans he meets - we can confidently say that he isn't one to hold back on (very sloppy) kisses! Achilles can be selective about other dogs but does well with respectful dogs that don't come on too strong. He does very well when passing other dogs while on leash and prefers to keep to himself. He's not a fan of cats and would do best in a home with no small animals.
