Meet AiJu
Meet AiJu in TEXAS
AiJu was an owner surrender. The son fell on hard times and left AiJu with his parents. The parents wanted to rehome him because they had financial problems of their own and because he was not housetrained. However, we have not had any problems with him going potty in the house. He goes to the door when he wants out. AiJu is a very handsome chihuahua weighing 10 pounds. He is an older guy, maybe around 8 years of age. AiJu is a very good boy and not a stereotypical chihuahua. He is wary of new people but warms up with time. AiJu is crate-trained and well-behaved in the house. He rides well in the vehicle, walks well on a leash, and comes when called. AiJu is fairly quiet, he only barks when he wants to come back in the house after he goes outside. He spends most of his time lying on the couch or in his bed. He does like treats and he plays with other small dogs on occasion. He does get bossy and tries to dominate the larger male dogs. One of our large males did get mad at him and cuffed him to put him in his place. So we would recommend that he not be allowed to interact with larger dogs that might hurt him. AiJu is fine with other small dogs and would probably also do well with cats. AiJu is small and delicate and must be protected from rough treatment by children or big dogs that could hurt him. He must also be protected from raptors and other outdoor predators. AiJu must be in the house as a loved member of the family. He must be walked on a leash and would like a fenced yard to run and play.
AiJu is healthy. He is neutered, fully vaccinated (DAPPvL2, Bordatella, rabies), and microchipped. AiJu is heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. He had a dental and his 4 upper incisors had to be removed. The rest of his teeth were in good shape. AiJu had some back problems when we first got him. The vet prescribed a daily anti-inflammatory (Meloxidyl) to help with the pain. AiJu is now doing much better and doesn't need his medication every single day. His back problems may have been associated with the stress of a new environment with a lot of other dogs. However, AiJu does need dog steps to get on and off furniture and a bit of care when he is picked up to avoid hurting his back. Applicants must be able to afford refills of his medication (which is not expensive) and be able to take him to the vet as needed.
We would really love AiJu to have a fabulous forever home. His adoption fee includes the cost of ground transport to Ontario, OR. AiJu is being fostered in Texas and cannot be transported until after he is adopted. Please send an email if you are interested in adopting this sweet boy.
