Meet Baloo
Baloo is about 4 yrs old, 40 lbs. We’re guessing boxer in the mix, but he’s small so who knows!
Behaviour: Baloo is super sweet and cuddly. He loves attention and hugs and always welcomes new people with a huge smile.
Good with other dogs: Baloo lived with 2 small female dogs. Friendly with all dogs but he prefers females or male dogs his size or smaller. He is ok meeting large male dogs in public places but can get a bit dominant if a new large male dog comes to his home.
Children: Good with children.
Cats: Cat tested – Baloo just looked at the cats and did nothing.
Housetrained: Baloo is potty-trained. He is Ok being crated but prefers not being in a crate for long periods of time.
Energy level: Medium-High. He needs to go out on 20 minutes walk every day and be able to run around in a yard at least once a day to release his energy.
Training: He knows “sit” and “stop” in Spanish. He walks fine on leash but could use some more training with it.
Behaviors that need work: He can be jumpy on people when excited but this is a behavior that is easily discouraged with training. When not walked every day, he may become a bit of an escape artist. He has jumped the foster’s medium-sized fence twice and once got out as soon as she opened the door (all this happened when his foster family was too busy to walk him for several days).
Ideal home: He would enjoy living with another playful female dog or small male pup and with children who are respectful of dogs. He would love to be in a home with active parents who can get him out on daily 20-30 minutes walks or on occasional hiking trips. A nice backyard for his zoomies would be great.
Rescue story: Baloo and two small female dogs were found abandoned in an apartment in a crate. A cleaning lady who also feeds stray dogs found them when assigned to clean that apartment unit and she brought them to her home. The ex-owner had him outside on his balcony or in the crate his whole life, the neighbors told her. Which is why he really loves going on walks! Another rescue took Baloo’s small friends while Baloo was fostered for heartworm treatment. During that time, thieves broke into the foster’s home and stole Baloo and two of the foster’s dogs. Reward posters resulted in Baloo’s return 2 weeks later, but the fosters’ dogs were never recovered. Baloo had a chain when recovered, so we think he escaped from wherever the thieves chained him.
This poor guy has been through so much and is still smiling. He deserves a happy forever home.
All our dogs are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, microchipped, and dewormed. Baloo was treated for heartworms four months ago.
