We couldn't leave Barnes behind once Aries arrived in our care.
So we had Barnes catch a ride with a shelter volunteer once we got a commitment for a temporary foster for him where he spent a week for us to learn all about him.
Barnes just moved to his new foster home where he's living with three kids and three resident dogs expanding his world and our understanding of his personality.
At his new foster home this weekend, he headed to the vet for his booster vaccine, followed by lunch out and a school event showcasing his lovely temperament.
Barnes is showing us that he is good with kids and the three resident dogs in his current foster home too.
Like his littermate Aries, Barnes is super handsome with a similar soft temperament.
At 25 lbs, he's a bit bigger than Aries.
Both of these pups will be big boys.
Barnes had a bath and napped after his first road trip from the shelter.
He was a gem through his bath, sitting politely in the sink, snuggling into the towel to be dried, and burrowing into his foster mom's lap afterward for a nap.
After snuggling, he didn't protest when placed in his crate for a nap.
Then, Barnes headed to the Paws n Play Training facility in Sacramento to say hello and play and wish them a terrific grand opening on Feb.
17th.
His friendly and affectionate nature with people makes him a joy to be around, whether cuddling up, giving kisses, snuggling in for a nap, or exploring the yard.
The video from his play session at Paws n Play showcases his sweetness.
Just in the first week we learned that Barnes loves balls, fuzzy toys, hard toys for his achy teeth, boxes to shred, and carrying his long leash when hanging out in the front yard to learn all about people running, walking their dogs, and riding their bikes by the house.
Barnes is thoroughly crate trained; he's calm and settles in his crate during daytime naps and at night without a peep.
He's very people-oriented and social, staying close to his people when free in the house.
He got at ease in the yard with the big dogs in his first foster home accepting their play bows and nudges to play chase whithin a day following them around and grasping that all potty should be outside just like them.
Barnes loves to bring his toys right back for you to throw again and will come like the wind when called.
He, like most busy puppies this age, is happy to steal your shoes from the bedroom to bring them to chew right at your feet.
And is easily directed to a more appropriate toy.
We love seeing him with the resident shepherds in his foster homes showing us that he's easy going and can take direction from his pack in addition to taking direction from his people.
Although the shelter had aged him at 15 weeks, we were able to confirm at his vet checkup that he's most likely 12 weeks old based on his puppy teeth, he's shedding them promptly on schedule with new adult teeth coming in right behind those puppy teeth.
Just a big boy!!! Barnes may be a Dutch German shepherd mix, although we pulled a brindle-coated purebred shepherd from the vicinity of this agricultural area a few years ago.
If you're searching for a charming companion to brighten your days and fill your home with love, this delightful brindle pup could be it.
Barnes will thrive in a forever home committed to environmental exposure to continue the excellent foundation he'll receive in his foster home, ongoing training, and structure shepherd puppies need to grow into neutral adult dogs.
