Benny is a small "chorkie" weighing about 6-8lbs. His owners believed he was 5 or 6 yrs old. The little guy was surrendered due to his anxious barking that was about to get his owners evicted. They had him boarded for a few weeks while they attempted to find alternative housing arrangements, but sadly were unable to come up with one. Benny is now in need of a new forever home.
The owners told me that he had been diagnosed with generalized anxiety but they were never able to get the prescription filled to see if the medication would have helped him. The fact that Benny is intact certainly doesn't help his anxiousness & we hope that neutering will also calm him down a bit. His behavior is mostly normal, but he just never stops barking for your attention. His dad had said that they could be playing in the floor with other dogs (Benny loves dogs) and he has dads attention & kids & toys to play with too, but Benny still barks at him. It's possible with the correct stimulation on a consistent basis & some corrective training that Benny could learn to be a more independantly content dog. But his adoptive owner should be prepared for the event that he may be an extremely vocal dog his whole life. Adoption is not available for someone living in an apartment.
He's been okay to sleep in the crate & he is somewhat potty trained but not completely. Benny will be scheduled for a vet apt in Palm Bay, where we will get his neuter, vaccines updated & a current heartworm test as well. Our vet scheduled about a month out. If you are interested to meet & potentially adopt Benny before the apt comes up, you will be responsible to bring him to the apt which will be paid by the rescue.
