Bernard aka “Bernie” is a handsome 4-5 year old German Shepherd who has been waiting for his perfect forever family to come along.
Bernie is a special guy who is a volunteer favorite among many at the rescue.
He has a few quirks which has caused him to be with us for quite some time.
He will need a family with patience and commitment, and one who really understands the breed.
Bernie can be selective on the people in his friend group, so we will require that any potential adopter comes to meet Bernie multiple times to ensure it is a good fit to set Bernie up for success.
Initial introductions will involve a muzzle, so please be aware of this.
Once Bernie trusts you and builds a bond with you, he is an amazing, loving, happy and sweet boy.
However it is important to know that in a home setting, anybody new coming into the house will need to take introductions very slow.
German Shepherd experience is a requirement.
German shepherds are known to have hip problems, and unfortunately Bernie is affected by this.
In our care he has had 2 FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) Surgery’s to correct his hips.
However one of his hips never healed properly so he does have a limp on that leg from time to time.
Bernard is an awesome boy once you take the time to get to know him.
He is smart and loves his people.
He will need a home without children and would do best as an only dog.
If you are willing to give Bernie a chance, please fill out an adoption application.
If you can give Bernard an indoor forever home, please fill out our online application on our website at / We will only schedule meet and greets with an approved application.
We are an all-volunteer organization.
It may take a couple of days to process an application and complete reference checks.
Thank you for your interest in saving the life of a dog.
