Meet Buddy
After a year in his foster home, Buddy has come a long way from his days as a 'wild child.' Now almost 3 years old, he trusts and loves his foster family and can take an occasional break during the day to close his eyes. However, a part of him is always at the ready, and he'll spring up to help you with whatever he believes he should be involved with (which is generally everything). Sporting a beautiful tricolor pattern common to rat terriers, 22-lb.
Buddy reveals that he's predominantly a herding dog in his coat length, temperament, and drive. He needs to go to work a few times each day, and he takes his 'job' very seriously, whether it's playing ball (his favorite, though he's more interested in chasing than returning the ball) or attempting to corral his smaller canine foster siblings into a little herd. While this latter task is satisfying to Buddy, it's not welcomed by the other dogs, so he would do best as an only dog. Buddy hasn't been around cats but would probably behave similarly with them.
Buddy thrives around the familiar and the routine, but he can be fearful if he's out of his comfort zone. Mostly a homebody, he likes running on his own turf with maybe an occasional walk. He'll need a large securely fenced outdoor space in a quiet rural environment, where he can roam and sniff (smells are important to him) and feel safe. Buddy had a bite incident in his past, so his adopter(s) should not have children but should know how to encourage desirable behavior with positive reinforcement and how to discourage undesirable behavior without using aversive corrections. Love, patience, and consistency have done wonders for Buddy over the past year. He will make a great buddy for the right person or couple looking for a companion to share all parts of their lives with.
Note: Potential adopters should plan to meet Buddy several times to ease his transition to a new home.
Our adoption fee is $200 for adult dogs or $250 for puppies under 6 months old.
