This is Canela, (means cinnamon) a 3-4-year-old mini mix.
She weighs around 16 kilograms.
Canela is a special adoption, and her future family needs to understand her past.
When she arrived at the shelter, she was terrified of people due to the mistreatment she endured from her previous owners.
They had harshly mistreated her, causing her immense fear.
It took nearly one month for her to stop running to a corner every time someone entered her kennel.
Over the course of 8 months, she gradually decompressed and realized she was safe.
Now, Canela is much better but it may take some time for her to feel comfortable in a new environment so she will need a special adopter to help her feel secure.
This is why she is marked Special Needs.
She needs a special human.
She is trained on leash, and is improving when meeting new people and other dogs She spends most of her time either on the roof of her dog house—reminding us of Snoopy.
She is potty trained.
Canela deserves a chance to have a kind person who will treat her well and want her as a part of the family.
Adoption process: Our rescue is located near Bucerias Mexico.
We use Petfinder to reach a greater audience for our dogs and adopt the majority of our dogs to the US and Canada.
The first step is to submit an application on our website here: Once we receive your application, we will review it and may contact you for more information or to conduct a home check.
If your application is approved and the dog is located in Mexico, we will collaborate with flight companions (flight angels) flying from Puerto Vallarta to destinations close to where the dog is posted as available.
Adopters can meet these flight angels at the airport and take the pup home.
(We can provide more detailed information about this process to adopters upon request.) Before requesting adoption fees or the signing of the adoption contract we give adopters a few days to a week to spend time with their new pup.
If for some reason things were not to work out, we kindly ask that the adopters foster the dog until we find a suitable home for them.
A few notes about our pups: - Most of our shelter dogs are accustomed to being outside and free-roaming unless otherwise stated.
Some may have been in homes before and could be potty trained but in a new environment they would need easy access to the outside and be re-acclimated to their designated potty area.
We cannot guarantee a pup is potty trained unless they are with a foster or surrendered to us with noted training.
- We can send more videos/pictures of our dogs.
Unfortunately, we cannot do live videos at our shelter.
- Our dogs are given de-wormer tested negative for heartworm (unless otherwise noted) are up to date on required vaccines for travel and receive regular flea and tick treatment.
They have also been evaluated by our vet who has provided any necessary medical care upon rescue.
-Last, but not least ,we LOVE our dogs and we hope you do too.
They have hearts of gold and so much love to give.
Please be kind and patient with them; they are worth it! It takes time to adjust to new people and new places.
We are on IG and FB.
Please consider adopting as we have over 130 dogs and the shelter is full.
