Meet Charles Barkley
Ahoy, matey! Charles' birthday is September 19--Talk Like a Pirate Day! Aarrr!
Charles Barkley was born to an impoverished family in coastal England. He was only a mere pup when his family sold him to a merchant vessel as a deckhand, a hard and dangerous job for a young puppy. He learned to be quick & light on his feet, but he missed his family and cried himself to sleep many nights.
After a few years and many storms, he had strong sea legs and callouses on his paws. One fateful day, his vessel was overtaken by pirates! While many of the crew were forced the walk the plank, the pirate captain saw Charles' potential and took him onto his vessel.
Pirate Charles had quite a number of adventures aboard that ship. He looted for treats. He survived an attack by a kraken, although he was lifted up into the air, which left him forever traumatized, and he does *not* like being picked up. He got into a fight with the ship's parrot, which left him with one eye and intensely protective of his food bowl. The parrot learned the hard way - do *not* take his bowl!
However, he is not completely hardened from his years with pirates and buccaneers. Now that he is back to being a landlubber, he likes scratches on his head and butt. He is also happy to set up camp in a safe place, perhaps under a table, to keep an eye on the comings and goings in the house - it reminds him of his time as the ship's captain.
Charles Barkley has a couple pounds to lose and some arthritis, but he is happy to follow you around the house, barking out commands. He also likes adventuring out into the yard and exploring. If you're looking for a housemate who (mostly) will not poop in the house, will keep to himself, and will appreciate scratches (much like a cat) - Barkley will be your best first mate!
Come meet this pirate and his mates.
