Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved.
If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs.
IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply.
If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board.
We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Charley, 5 year old, neutered male, plott hound/pit bull mix, 50 lbs.
Charley is in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an adopter is approved! This very distinguished gentleman was saved from euthanasia at an overcrowded shelter in Texas last year.
We've since learned he is quite smart and - like your gifted/talented teenage son, wants to see what all he can get away with, testing boundaries and enjoying the game.
For the right person, Charley is going to be a great addition to their family as he will keep you on your toes! Charley is dog friendly with a lot of energy - he loves wrestling and rough housing, and does tend to be "in your face." Other dogs may not tolerate well his "puppyish" behavior of mouthing and jumping all over them, and Charley just needs reminders of when to play and when to not.
He's a really amiable guy and has been in playgroups of up to 4 dogs, male and female with much success.
He responds well to dogs when initially meeting them, very curious and enthusiastic to be friends.
Charley does not need but is confident enough to be an only pet.
As mentioned with his dog behavior, Charley still has lots of puppy tendencies and will need an owner willing to put in some work teaching him manners.
He is very food motivated so training is made that much simpler! He also responds very well to gentle correction and excels with stability & routine.
Short "time outs" and the leash are high value corrections for him - he doesn't need strong corrections.
He has improved significantly on his leash skills - although a harness is definitely better to prevent pulling - and is fully crate and house trained.
Charley likes to play tug-o-war with the leash but has learned it is not a game, and stops when his handlers drop the leash and/or turn their backs.
He is very comfortable in the crate and is not destructive.
Charley is your typical dog with the normal anxiety triggers: fireworks, thunderstorms, etc.
He may take a couple weeks to settle into a routine but once he's established the gameplan and where he falls in line, he will exceed expectations.
Charley *loves* nylabones, pig ears/bully sticks or cheese.
He is moderate to high energy (a 5-6 out of 10) and thrives with extra play time once or so a day.
Charley would do well in an active home with an owner willing to be the leader he looks up to.
He would love to join in on adventures, whether that be running, walking, hikes or car rides - he is ready! Through it all, Charley does relax in the house and loves to cuddle, he's very sweet and affectionate.
He is an overall happy dog who seeks attention and love - he's good natured and goofy, even a bit clumsy! He loves to ride in the car and just wants to be with his people.
We have no history with cats or kids.
Generally, we recommend a home with kids 10 years or older due to his energetic personality.
We can see him inadvertently knocking over a young child or running up to smuggle a blanket away from them.
Charley doesn't have a prey drive so he may be okay with cats or small animals but we would definitely recommend cautious introductions.
***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time.
