Cricket, 2 years old, spayed female, Pitbull Terrier mix, 41 pounds. She is in a foster home in SAN ANTONIO, Texas and can transport out of State once an adopter is approved.
This adorable girl is so incredible! She had been fostered through the City shelter's foster program for about 5 months. That person was no longer able to keep so her they brought her back to the shelter. She was immediately placed on a euthanasia list :( A foster within our rescue came forward for her. We learned after taking her in, she had an injury to her leg that went untreated the entire time she was previously in care. She underwent FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) in early August. She is wrapping up her recovery and is doing fantastic!
We want to note this is a fairly common procedure for a lot of old injuries' in dogs who did not get care at the time of the injury. This does not prohibit her from doing anything and there are no ongoing health issues.
Her foster mom thinks she is "maybe the best dog in the world." She LOVES to play with other dogs. She tends to match the energy of the other dog and adapts very well. There is a small (12 pounds) dog and a 60 pound dog in the foster home. She picks up on ques and will disengage. She will however, gently paw at them to try to get them to play with her again.
She walks really well on a leash and has on reaction to other dogs walking by. She walks calmly and does not pully. She really likes her walks and exploring! She is happy to play alone with a toy. She will sometimes play fetch if the mood catches her.
Cricket also shares a home with cats and has no issues with them. She will however, try to chase squirrels, rabbits etc. We have no history with kids and recommend a home with kids 10 years and older.
She is fully housebroken and does wonderful when crated. She is calm when riding in the car. She is a moderate energy dog. She needs some physical/mental engagement or else she may get bored. She loves the company of other dogs and we think she would do great with a dog friend.
She loves belly rubs, hugs and kisses :) She is VERY affectionate and loving. She is a little nervous when meeting new people. When out walks if someone walks by she does not know, she tends to move away from them. She is never reactive. Apples are her favorite snack and she really loves cold water.
Her foster mom has this to say about her, " Cricket really is an amazing girl. She makes fostering seem so easy. She adapted very well in my home. She's submissive so it really helped her fit in with my very dominant personality dogs.
I really can't say enough good things about her. If my house was ideal for her I would absolutely keep her but she deserves so much more than what I can give her. I love her and will miss her but I'll be so happy for her happily ever after."
