Mission
Dachshund Rescue of North America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with one sole purpose — rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing needy dachshunds and mostly dachshund mixes. We are a network of experienced rescuers with representation in the northeast, mid-Atlantic, and southeast and have placed almost 12,000 dogs into their forever homes. DRNA began with a small number of rescuers who worked independently for a year before incorporating in 1999 to realize the benefits of combining resources.
Adoption Policy
• You must be 21 years of age to adopt from DRNA.
• There are some areas of the United States that may not be covered by DRNA for adoption since most of our foster homes are located on the East Coast. Please refer to the map on our Who to Contact page to see the states that are covered.
STEP 1: Sign in or register for an Applicant account.
STEP 2: Complete a DRNAÂ Adoption Application. The DRNA adoption application is an online application that can be completed and submitted directly to DRNA.
STEP 3: DRNA will conduct vet and reference checks. DRNA will contact your current and possibly previous vet as well as your three references to obtain information about you (and your family) as potential dachshund owners.
STEP 4: DRNA will conduct a home visit. A DRNA representative or volunteer will schedule a home visit. The home visits can last between 20 minutes to an hour depending on the questions, comments and concerns each party might have.
STEP 5: DRNA will determine if the dachshund you applied for is a match for you based on the dog's requirements for adoption and your living situation. If it's not a match, they may recommend another dog or ask you to keep checking our website. We can't guarantee that everyone who applies for a dog will get to adopt a dog. If you filled out an application but did not specify a particular dog, it's in your best interests to keep checking our website for a dog that interests you.
STEP 6: Adoption contract is completed. Once the dachshund is ready to join your family a DRNA representative will go over the adoption contract and both you and DRNA will sign the adoption contract.
STEP 7: Adoption Fee is paid. Our Adoption Fees are as follows:

STEP 8: DRNA does not guarantee transportation of your new family member to your home. This needs to be a discussion between you and the DRNA rep responsible for the dog. You may be asked to drive to meet the foster parents or the DRNA rep or meet them halfway. Each rep has their own process. We have no policy on this. We trust our reps to do what's best for our dogs. DRNA tries to keep dachshunds close to their foster homes to minimize the stress on the dog that comes with transporting.
