Are you right for Dom?
Dom is on the search for a calm home with adopters who can give him a predictable routine and a life full of fun, adventure and love! Dom is a friendly and gentle boy, however he can get overwhelmed with too much noise and lots of hustle and bustle, so he is looking for an adult only home with minimal visitors and without regular visiting children that might not understand when Dom is feeling overstimulated. Dom has lots of doggy pals at the centre that he likes to go for walks with and he would benefit from calm companions to go on walks with once he is adopted, but in the home he will need to be the only pet so that he can fully relax. When it comes to training, Dom knows all his basics, is clean in his kennel and he walks nicely on his lead. He will need his own private garden that is fully enclosed with minimum 6 foot fencing to keep him secure. Due to his chase instinct he wears a muzzle on his walks and he accepts and wears it happily. Dom would benefit from regular visits to secure dog fields where he can have a good run and stretch his legs. He will likely cope with a couple of hours of leaving time in his new home, however this should be built up gradually and only introduced once he is acclimatised to his new home to avoid him becoming stressed or worried. Dom will need to meet his adopters multiple times prior to going home to build a strong bond and he will need visits from our behaviour team once he goes home so adopters will need to live within 90 minutes driving distance from the Canterbury Rehoming Centre so please bear this in mind prior to applying for him. If you rent your property, please have written permission from your landlord ready once you have submitted your application to avoid delays, as it will be required early on in the rehoming process if you are shortlisted.
Is Dom right for you?
Dom is simply delightful! He is a handsome, sweet and playful 5 year old Lurcher with the most gorgeous smile and loving nature. First things first, this lad is seriously smart! Dom has a huge repertoire of tricks that he loves to show off and with positive training, he has the capacity to learn so much more! Dom has been with us for a long time now, originally arriving at Dogs Trust at around 8 months old. He was quite a frustrated boy with some over the top behaviours, but over the time he has been in our care, he has mellowed into an incredibly sweet boy who loves cuddles with his handlers. He likes to take his time saying hello to new people, but with a few friendly words and allowing him to have a sniff first, he soon comes round and then usually pops his paws up, leaning in for a gentle fuss. When he gets a new toy, he enjoys nothing more than taking off with it for the biggest and most joyful zoomies! Squeaky, soft toys are his absolute favourite! He does big victory laps holding his precious toy in his mouth, circling past you over and over to show off just how fast he is before coming in to offer the toy to you for a game of tug! A big fan of fetch, he will take off after a tennis ball like the wind and circle back to you ready for another go! Watching him run and play makes us smile every day! Once play time is over, he is always up for a snooze in a comfy bed and if snuggles are on offer, he will gladly accept! Dom is a really lovely dog, he has so much to offer a lucky home and will make a brilliant, fun, active and cuddly companion.Medical care
