Duke is a kaleidoscope of traits and characteristics that make it hard to properly articulate his unique and adorable character. When you first meet him he feels like an old soul, with a very serious little expression and very quiet and calm demeanor. He will find the highest point in the room he is in and make his way up there to monitor and assess you. As he relaxes, suddenly this funny and playful personality emerges. He is sharp as a tack when food is involved - quickly picking up tricks like ""high five,"" ""follow"" and even going inside his carrier when asked. When you pet him he'll be quiet for a moment and then melt into the loudest purr, rolling over and arching his back in an enormous, happy stretch. The little guy purrs constantly. He purrs when getting treats, he purrs when you pet him as he sleeps, he purrs when you stroke him as he saunters by you and he purrs when he gingerly steps onto your lap and curls up there.
He was introduced to a kitten companion named Lucky a few weeks ago as he was lonely on his own, pining for the resident cats in the foster home that wanted nothing to do with him. Lucky was less than thrilled with his presence and, like a true gentleman, he mostly gave her her space, letting her get comfortable. She disliked his initial attempts to play with her -- too rough and tumble for her liking. After a bit of time it seemed his acute observational skills helped him adjust his play style to better suit her and now they (mostly) happily play together. As a young active fellow, we're definitely looking for a home where Duke can have a feline playmate.
