Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved.
If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer-run rescue and donate our time to these dogs.
IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply.
If someone other than yourself is part of the decision-making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board.
We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Ellie, 8 years old, spayed female, Labrador Retriever mix, weighs 47 pounds.
She is currently in a foster home in Houston, Texas and can transport out of state once an adopter is approved.
Ellie is a super sweet senior girl who was turned into the shelter when her owner passed away.
She was in rough shape and ended up on the euthanasia list due to space, however, she was saved thanks to a foster stepping up to give her the second chance she deserved! Ellie has had quite the transformation! She has gained some needed weight and cleared the infections.
She was so calm and patient in the bathtub with her medicated baths for her skin too! She is a very easy pup who just wants a couch to chill out on and someone to give her pets and scritches.
She is quiet overnight and enjoys walking the neighborhood but is fine if you skip the walks on bad weather days.
She is very affectionate and gives lots of kisses and will sit right beside you while you are relaxing.
Her fosters report that she is one of the easiest dogs they have had! Ellie is an older gal and doesn't play too much, but she does like to tear up a stuffed toy though (RIP Lambchop).
She spends much of her time sunbathing in the backyard, napping on the couch, or enjoying a bully stick chew.
Her favorite time of the day is when her foster parents come home.
She busts out the zoomies in celebration! Ellie gives lots of kisses and will sit patiently near you waiting for pets.
She also wants to be close on the couch for cuddles after a long day.
Ellie has had two foster siblings that are smaller Spaniels and gets along well with them! She would be happy as an only dog or with a low-key doggie friend who respects her space.
She has also done well walking past smaller dogs in the neighborhood.
Ellie has not been around cats, so it is unknown if she is cat-friendly.
Ellie's foster family has a 3-year-old, and Ellie is fantastic with him.
She does not jump up or act rowdy in any way.
His only complaint is that she kisses his face too much (nothing like some puppy love)! She is likely to do well with older and younger children! Ellie gets an "A-" on the leash, generally doesn't pull, walks calmly, and stays on the sidewalk.
Once in a while, she will catch a scent and try to take you the way she wants to go.
It's always good to stop and smell the roses! She seems to enjoy a nice 2-3 mile walk with no problem, even though she is a senior.
Ellie is also potty trained and uses a doggie door! Ellie is not a fan of the crate, but her fosters have been working on it.
She will go in with a "high value" treat like a bully stick.
She currently takes treats around her furry siblings but should probably be fed separately for meals.
She will sit under the dining table and politely inquire about the possibility of some yummy home-cooked food, but would never be pushy about it.
Ellie is so adaptable she would do well in a house or apartment, and with any combination of single person, family, kids, etc...
She is quiet in the house and can go 8-10 hours without needing to use the restroom when her foster is at work.
She's an older dog but she has so much life and love left in her! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time.
