Meet Forest
The Beagle is a small to medium-sized hound breed known for its sharp sense of smell and friendly disposition. Originating from England, the Beagle was traditionally used for tracking small game, particularly rabbits, due to its keen nose and tireless persistence.
Appearance: Beagles possess a sturdy, compact build. They typically have a short, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color combinations, including white with large black areas and light brown shading, or a mix of white, brown, and black. Their ears are floppy and medium-length, hanging close to their cheeks. They have soulful, expressive eyes that range in color from hazel to brown.
Temperament: Beagles are known for their gentle and friendly nature. They are especially good with children and can be very sociable with other dogs. Being pack animals, they thrive on companionship and often prefer not to be left alone for extended periods. Their curious nature can sometimes lead them astray, especially if they catch an interesting scent. This breed is also known for its vocal nature, often baying or howling when they're excited or on the scent trail.
Training & Care: While Beagles are intelligent, they can also be stubborn, making training both a necessity and a challenge. Consistency and positive reinforcement work best with this breed. Given their hunting heritage, they have a high prey drive and might chase after small animals. Securely fenced areas or leashed walks are crucial to prevent them from running off after an intriguing scent. Their short coat is relatively low maintenance but will benefit from regular brushing to reduce shedding.
Health: Beagles are generally healthy, but like all breeds, they can be prone to specific health issues, including hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, and certain types of dwarfism. Regular check-ups with a veterinarian and a balanced diet can help ensure a long, healthy life.
