Indoor life with a doting human is nice. I had fun during my time living in an East Village garden, but admittedly, it was stressful when the weather was bad and when I wasn't sure when my next meal would arrive. Now I am always warm and dry, my meals are reliably served, and I get brushed and petted and played with all of the time. I love to look out the window and daydream about the times I was running around with my pals in the fresh air but given the choice, I wouldn't trade the security and comforts of a home.
Having a buddy would really make things super perfect but I should tell you that I am FIV positive. The City Critters folks have known many positive cats who have lived very long lives and other cats who are negative. They can describe their experiences and guide you to research that explains that FIV is not contagious by using the same litter box or bowls or grooming.
One last thing, I do hope you are more skilled at squeezing the meat tube treat than my rescuer. (See the video). I like to eat the treat, not wear it. Hee Hee.
