Meet Gail
The Afghan Hound, often affectionately referred to as "Gail" in some circles, is a distinct and elegant breed known for its luxurious silky coat, unique appearance, and noble demeanor. With roots tracing back to the mountainous regions of Afghanistan, the breed was originally used for hunting due to its sharp vision and nimble speed, particularly in rugged terrains.
Physical Appearance: Afghan Hounds stand tall with an average height of 24 to 29 inches for males and 24 to 27 inches for females. Their long, flowing coats come in a variety of colors, ranging from cream to gold, black, and even blue. A characteristic "topknot" of fine, silky hair adorns their head. Their expressive almond-shaped eyes, paired with their refined and elongated face, give them a dignified and sometimes aloof expression.
Temperament: While the Afghan Hound may appear aloof or even regal, those familiar with the breed know them to be playful, affectionate, and oftentimes clownish when at ease with their families. They are known for their independent nature, which can sometimes be mistaken for stubbornness. Proper training and socialization are vital from a young age, as they can be reserved with strangers. Despite their elegant appearance, they are known to be quite agile and love a good chase.
