Meet Gunner
Gunner is a beautiful husky/shepherd mix. About 1.5-2 years old. His history is a mystery, but we can speculate on a few things. One is that he hasn’t had the easiest life as he appears to be very frightened of humans.
He still cowers anytime you entered his kennel and he frantically paces back and forth. When reaching to pet him for what we believe was the first time his skin was extremely jittery. Imagine being a dog and never being touched, positively in your life by humans. We have brought a dog trainer in to help with this special situation. It’s important to him to have someone who respects his boundaries and takes the time to push new boundaries only as he proves ready. if pushed too far to socialize, he will potty in distress.
Gunner seems to be a playful guy when no one is around. When watched via security camera, he's been observed playing like a puppy all over again. Although he is allowed to let loose, he isn’t ready to do that when people are around.
It’s easy to see that he wants so badly to be loved and to trust someone for the first time. He needs a routine, constant training, and PATIENCE. His potential is endless. We need the perfect person to take him on. It will take a special person to adopt Gunner, he needs someone who can put in the massive time and energy to win him over. While also understanding that he MAY never be a “lovey lap boy”. He is great with other dogs and is potty trained via the doggy door.
It is important to note he has NEVER shown aggression towards people, just fear - to which he retreats.
It is also important that whoever adopts him, must have the appropriate enclosure. He has proven to be a true husky and a great escape artist. Gunner also has a lot of energy and needs an outlet. Since he is not ready for leash training, he will need a safe enclosure with plenty of room for play and opportunity for mental stimulation. He will need to be adopted out by someone who already has a confident dog within their home who can help teach Gunner to trust humans.
Please, if you have the resources and patience and think you can give Gunner a safe place to rest his head, then apply.
If you are interested in adopting Gunner, you must fill out an application first.
You must fill out and submit an application to even be considered for a meet and greet. We do require references.
