Howard County Animal Control and Adoption Center
It’s Animal Officer Control Appreciation Week!
Our staff at HCAC love animals---that is why they are in this field. We have many joyful moments but sad moments as well that make our hearts heavy. We take the joys and heartbreak home with us---we are always on the job!
Our Animal Control Officers have the hearts of lions. They work tirelessly to rescue animals from dangerous and cruel situations, investigate animal bites, respond to numerous calls regarding violations of animal control laws and are on call 24/7. They conduct community outreach programs.
Our Animal Handlers are the soul of the shelter. They take care of all of our animals to include dogs, cats, birds, pigs, rabbits, snakes, turtles and more. They care for each animal as if they were their own. They provide medical care, grooming, feeding, exercise. They work seven days a week.
Our Office Staff are the information center of the shelter and the friendly greeters. They help you to find the next love of your life or reunite you with your lost friend. They are the creative writers behind the majority of our posts.
Our Volunteers are invaluable! They walk dogs, provide enrichments, show animals to potential adopters. They add tremendously to the lives of our animals in the shelter.
As the Administrator, I am proud of the work we do and the differences we have made not just in the lives of animals but in the lives of the people who love them. Today I appreciate all my staff and volunteers and their sacrifices.

Howard County Animal Control and Adoption Center is the county's Animal Shelter and is a division of the Howard County Police Department. We are a government agency dedicated to enforcing animal control laws, promoting the humane treatment of animals, providing adoption services, discounted spay/neuter services, and educating the public on animal issues. We handle between four and five thousand animals a year. All dogs, cats and rabbits adopted from Howard County Animal Control & Adoption Center are spayed and neutered before adoption and receive all age related vaccines.
The shelter uses Kuranda beds to keep our furry companions comfortable....if you would like to donate one to help please copy and paste the link below onto your browser.
