Meet Hugo! This gorgeous guy is looking for his forever home.
He was trapped by HARRT after being found as a stray in great neglect.
He was extremely malnourished with a persistent UTI and blood in his urine that took a lot of time and antibiotics to fix.
Thankfully he has had the most caring fosters to help him through his rough times and help him learn to live in a loving home.
He has plenty of unique husky tendencies and will need just the right home that understands the breed.
Hugo’s fosters think he lived mostly outside before they got him.
His potty-training has been a struggle for them, though he does understand the use of potty-pads indoors.
Holding it has been an issue when alone for long hours.
We expect that this would improve greatly if he had a dog door or someone with him most of the time to monitor and ensure he had frequent breaks, and to correct him as needed.
Hugo has learned to sit, and his fosters also have him sit before eating.
Hugo can be very vocal when frustrated, but his howling has improved greatly over time.
His fosters have been working with him on crate training, and he has made great improvements and is doing well in his crate so far.
He is destructive when left out in the home, so his adopter must either be open to continuing to work with him on crate training, or able to provide him a pet-proof area to stay when they are not home.
Hugo would do very well with another husky or dogs with a similar play style.
He gets along well with the foster’s dogs, but his play style is a little more rough than they are used to and he will do best with other dogs that play similarly.
Regular exercise, runs and walks is definitely beneficial for him as well.
Hugo is cautious with new people at first.
He does not like overhead or fast movements, but this gets a lot better with time.
He is a lovable boy who snuggles and adores his humans once he develops trust.
For someone with patience who wants to form a bond with a really special boy, look no further! Hugo would love to be your new best friend.
