Adoption Process
Many rescue dogs have special needs that may require extra love and patience from their new homes. Many, if not most, have not had positive experiences with humans in their past, so they spend time in foster care, to learn and unlearn what they need to become beloved family members. Rescue dogs require special patience and care to get adjusted in your home. But each has a story of it's own of how they came to be Im-Paws-Able pups and their own success story of how they came to be loved by you!
Adopting from Im-Paws-Able requires you to complete ALL of the steps in the following rescue process outlined below.
Step 1: Review our pets. If you find someone who you think that you could love furever, complete the adoption application found at: https://goo.gl/forms/2BDtXs30XeK1PEgr2
Be certain to answer all of the questions to the best of your ability.
Step 2: Review of your application.
An Im-Paws-Able volunteer will review your application to determine if it should be escalated to the next step. Our goal is to find the perfect ‘fur-ever’ home for each dog in our care. We appreciate your understanding should you be eliminated as an adoption candidate. This usually takes 5-7 days, however, it is dependent on how quickly your references return our calls. PLEASE REMEMBER...We are ALL volunteers with careers & families of our own (We would love YOUR help with the next potential adopter!)
Step 3: Veterinary Reference Check
A volunteer from Im-Paws-Able Rescue will verify with the veterinarian you listed on your application to ensure your current pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and are spayed/neutered. We will NOT consider placing an Im-Paws-Able dog in a home where there are intact animals. If you do not currently have a pet, we will make sure that the veterinarian you listed exists and is accepting new patients. We will also ask for a third personal reference in Step 4.
Step 4: Personal Reference Check
A volunteer from Im-Paws-Able Dog Rescue will contact your personal references listed on your application to ensure that you understand what being a good pet owner means and you are able to undertake the responsibility of adoption. Please do not list relatives.
Step 5: Home Visit
This is the final step in the process. A home visit is when a volunteer from Im-Paws-Able Dog Rescue will visit your home to determine if it is safe and acceptable for the rescue dog you have chosen.
Im-Paws-Able Dog Rescue will set up the home visit. Please be patient, as we are all volunteers.
Step 6: The Adoption Contract
The adoption contract.ensures that you and Im-Paws-Able Rescue both agree on certain things, such as vetting, what will happen if the dog has to find a another home (it ALWAYS returns to us!), what to do if it gets lost, and many other aspects of of your new baby's life!
Step 7. Adoption
When the home visit is completed, you are ready to adopt your fur-ever family member!!!
FEES:
Our fees vary as much as the babies who we care for! The reason for this is because many come to us in extreme medical need. Many times, we encounter very high medical expenses. Being able to be solvent allows us to save the next dog in need. Sometimes, we may get a purebred dog, a senior dog and, on occasion, a dog with a terminal illness just looking for a loving place to spend his final days. If the adopter will be faced with medical bills, of course, the adoption fee would be minimal. Im-Paws-Able Rescue believes, strongly, that senior dogs and senior people make great pairs....so their fees would be minimal, as well.
Generally, our fees are dependent on expenses to get the dog to safety. Please ask about the fee for the new family member that you choose.
About This Rescue
Im-Paws-Able Dog Rescue is a close-knit group of trainers, groomers, educators, advocates but - most importantly - ANIMAL LOVERS!!!
We believe that every animal deserves a loving family. Many folks think that people help animals, but WE believe that it is truly the DOGS who can positively impact our lives and the lives of others!!!! Hence, our goal is to use education and training to enhance the human experience!
We feel strongly that the current euthanasia rates in the US can be lessened by strict spay and neuter protocols. Im-Paws-Able Dog Rescue insists that all animals are spayed or neutered, or if that's not possible due to health issues, they are altered as soon as possible. We give rebates to assist our adopters with the fees.
