Meet Ionna
If you are looking to add a little sunshine to your life during these winter blues, Ionna is your girl. She’s a happy-go-lucky bundle of affection that will Velcro herself to you if you let her.
Ionna is a 37-pound, three-year-old potcake from Curacao. She was found as a puppy along with her mom and spent the last 2 years of her life in a shelter until she took her freedom flight to Canada. Ionna is now living in Toronto with her foster mom, a dog sibling, and her dog mom, Irina.
This young lady is exceptionally friendly and will give complete strangers kisses. When you come home from being out and about, this sweet girl will turn herself inside out to get your love and affection. She warms up quickly to her people, forms close bonds and is incredibly cuddly and loving.
She is incredibly playful with her mom and other dogs of all sizes. As with all dogs, Ionna will need to be monitored with a new pet sibling until she settles in and the pack is established. She can exhibit signs of mild resource guarding with strange or new dogs. She is most protective over high-value treats like bully sticks.
Ionna is incredibly smart, the kind of smart that is food-motivated, completely engaged with her person, and willing to please. She already knows most of the basic commands, like sit and place and is working on more difficult commands with her foster mom. Ionna is completely potty-trained and crate-trained. She is not destructive and can be left out at home when her humans aren’t around. However, you’ll need to ensure your counters are clear as she is working on her counter surfing. Otherwise, she’ll likely take up her place on the couch and snooze away.
Ionna is all go until she isn’t. She’s either fully engaged in play, training or running around outside, or she’s completely passed out on the couch. Her daily routine consists of two walks, training, and some enrichment during the day. As she settles in, she easily takes slow and lazy days in stride. Of course, she still loves walks, hiking and being your best adventure buddy. She is good on a leash and friendly with other dogs and humans when they walk by, but she can be a bit skittish around loud cars, like trucks and buses.
