Meet Jax
Handsome 7-year-old Jax is an active boy, who loves all kinds of physical play and activity (jogging, playing ball, running with stuffed toys, and taking long walks). The 25-lb. rat terrier needs a lot of stimulation and exercise to quell his anxiety, which often takes the form of repetitive barking if his activity needs for the day are not met.
Jax can be a little reluctant to meet new humans and doesn't like to be touched by them. Once someone has earned his trust, he is very sweet and likes pets and spending time in their presence. However, he doesn't like to cuddle or to be picked up at all and will bite if picked up or touched in a way that is painful or threatening. He likes to sleep close to humans and other dogs but does best in his own bed.
In his foster home, Jax has adjusted quickly and follows the lead of his canine foster siblings. He doesn't directly interact with any of them but proceeds throughout the day based on what they are doing. He has shown protective behavior of his food and sleeping area and will get in minor scuffles to protect his resources. He would be good in a home with another dog who is detached and independent or will at least mind his space. He would also be good as a single dog but may take longer to settle in. He hasn't been around cats but would probably be incompatible with them (or any small animals) as he has a moderate prey drive. Jax is fully house-trained and has never had an accident in the house. Plus, he's super healthy except for an allergy to chicken that manifests in ear infections and body rashes.
On walks, Jax does pull on his leash a bit and loves to stop and sniff, but on jogs, he stays to the right and keeps pace well. He rides nicely in a car but doesn't like to be in a crate at all (even in the house). Indoors, he doesn't participate in naughty behavior like raiding the trash, counter surfing, or chewing on people's possessions. He's neither a digger nor an escape artist; he IS a neatnik, who keeps his toys in one place.
(Now THAT's worth points!) Our adoption fee is $200 for adult dogs or $250 for puppies under 6 months old.
