Jillian, 7 months old (estimated DOB June ), spayed female, Retriever mix, estimated to be a large size when full grown.
She is in a foster home in TACOMA, WASHINGTON and is available for meet and greets or transfer.
Jillian was taken in with her brother and mother by a kind family in Houston, TX when it was apparent that they were not safe in their current situation.
Her mother is about 40 lbs, and we are approximating her full size based on the size of her mom.
This affectionate girl has lots of puppy energy and amazing potential.
She's playful and is a great "retriever" as she loves to retrieve balls (although she hasn't fully gotten the hang of it) and enjoys playing in water.
She's sweet and affectionate as well.
She loves a good cuddle on the couch and to give kisses.
Initially, she can be a bit shy, so but getting down to her level makes her feel more comfortable and she really opens up when she trusts her person.
This smart girl is fully house broken and has not had any accidents since coming into her foster home.
She has already mastered the doggy door and comes in and out as she needs.
She is quiet in her crate and enjoys it as her safe place.
She has not yet been left in the home unsupervised without being crated.
Jillian would benefit from additional training in her leash skills as she sometimes pulls but mostly walks next to her handler.
Passing cars can sometimes startle her, but that's part of life we feel she can adapt to with more practice.
She's still young and learning about the world! When not engaging in play, Jillian likes to sniff around or chew on her bone.
Being just a kid herself, Jillian enjoys the company of children and we believe she would do well in a home with kids.
She has met children as young as four and was very calm and respectful.
She gave them kisses, didn't jump, and kept calm when with them.
Jillian would greatly benefit from another dog in the home, but if there is no other dog we feel she would do great in day care or on play dates with other friendly dogs.
She is generally submissive and rolls to show her belly when a dog approaches.
She doesn't initially engage in play, but likes to observe other dogs until she feels more at ease.
Her favorite type of play is to chase other dogs around.
Once she's more comfortable, she shows her more playful side.
Please let us know how you continue to enhance her social skills after adoption so she can continue to learn the doggy ropes.
Jillian has shown no food aggression, and prefers to eat in or around her crate but we are conditioning her to eat further away from it.
She is food motivated, which is terrific for the family committed to training her in the future.
We have no history with cats.
We are looking for a home that can give her the time to warm up and reveal truly loving personality and is interested in investing her her potential and intelligence with additional training.
