Meet Judy
Judy is a female lab mix weighing 41 lb, about 2 yrs old. She is sweet, a little shy but not afraid of people. Her 1-up-1-down ears are super cute.
She is dog friendly.
Was fine with a 7 yr old boy who was helping the volunteers vet the dogs.
Cats unknown, so no cats.
Judy had a rough start in life – she was picked up stray with 3 older puppies in March, then to everyone’s surprise two months later had a second litter in the pound.
Judy’s puppy making days are over. She has been spayed, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped. Judy is heartworm negative.
Judy hasn’t had much training yet but she listens very well. Every time her foster corrects her she listens. She is very smart.
"Judy is learning the routine. She's been quiet in the crate. Occasionally she will whine if Larry is sitting in the living room. She has made a few squeaks when a kitten got close to her crate. Sort of like a Husky talk, not a bark. She gets 4 walks a day and hasn't messed her crate. She's eating well. She walks well with other dogs. Doesn't pull on the leash. Up and down stairs ok.
In the kitchen, she puts her paws on the counter and would probably counter surf. She uses her nose to scent the air as we walk. It's interesting to watch her explore the new area.
She's ok with every person we have met. She hasn't been overly friendly, but hasn't barked or shied away.
No sign of food aggression.
She is cat selective. Some cats she will walk past and not look at. A few will walk up to her and even rub on her without reaction. A few she wants to chase. If one runs, she does chase."
"I have not let her loose in the house because of the kittens. She does know that we go outside directly from the crate. We are working on standing quietly while I open the door.
She's fine in a crate. No fuss at night. I give her a chew during the day if she gets restless. She willingly goes into the crate. Loves cheese!"
Judy has been stray quite a while so will need a patient experienced owner. She would do best with a quiet home (calm respectful children ok). An older gentle well-mannered dog would help her settle in and mentor her. She hasn’t lived in a city so rural or suburban would suit her best, ideally with a fenced yard in a quiet neighbourhood.
