Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved.
If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs.
IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply.
If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board.
We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Junie B.
Jones, 7 years old, spayed female, pitbull/retriever mix, 56 pounds.
Junie is located in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of State once an adopter is approved.
Junie B.
was saved from a sure euthanasia fate at the local municipal shelter in Houston.
We know little about her history prior to arriving at the shelter but it appeared she had been the victim of dog fights/attacks, as she was covered in wounds and scabs.
Since being saved, Junie B.
has put in lots of work with our trusted trainer and behaviorist and has done really well with the other dogs at his home.
One of his males is her best friend, her "Handsome Warren," if you will.
Given her likely history prior to coming into rescue, we would advise Junie have *slow introductions* and time to acclimate to other dogs in the house but she has not been reactive nor does she respond when walking by dogs on a leash.
Slow introductions typically look like a week spent away from other dogs in a space of their own, followed by "crate and rotate" - passing by the other animals in their crates and being allowed to sniff one another through the barriers.
Once successful with passing by crates, introductions progress to being loose on opposite sides of a baby gate; pack walks with limited face-to-face interaction; supervised but still limited face-to-face interaction while all animals on a leash; and finally, loose but monitored interaction off lead.
Junie has been clear: she may be an older gal but she is still a Party Animal - she loves to run and rollerblade, and does extremely well with her handler in these activities.
On a typical day, Junie goes on one mile runs with her trainer.
She is adamant that your New Year's Resolutions will not falter if she is by your her The Boss of Lunch if you must, but you will get that exercise in no matter what! Junie has impeccable house manners: she has no issues in a crate and is potty trained, although regression is possible and adopters should be patient with any potential accidents due to disruption in her normal routine & schedule.
She walks - and runs, clearly! - well on a leash and rides nicely in a car.
She is very friendly to humans and is an overall loving dog, who takes simply stunning she is sure to quickly become your camera's favorite subject.
She is quiet in the house and would love to wiggle into your lap and offer sweet kisses like a Mushy, Gushy Valentine.
We have no history with cats or children, and typically suggest homes with kids over the age of 10yrs, or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues.
Given Junie is now approaching her golden years, we expect she can safely be around younger children with proper introduction and supervision to ensure any unwanted behaviors are addressed ahead of time.
While all of our dogs are special, we believe that Junie B.
is the most deserving of a home of Her Own.
She would love to be the only dog in your life and has been waiting patiently for her Furever Ever After - will you be the one to show her true love?
***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time.
