Meet Kahlo
Kahlo is a sweet 10 week old Shepherd and possible lab mix that weighs 9 lbs. He is estimated to be around 40 lbs once he is fully grown. He is a happy-go-lucky boy that just lights up the room with his big smile. He is the class clown of his litter and loves to show off his big personality when he is playing with his favorite humans and puppy friends. He is a major cuddle bug and is very affectionate. He will burrow his face into your neck when you pick him up to cuddle and loves to fall asleep in his human's lap. He is a social pup that really loves everyone he meets, so he would be a great family that wants a pup that they can take everywhere with them, and would love to be a cheerleader for his human siblings at sporting events.
Kahlo is a low to medium energy puppy. He is best described as a good mix of active and laid back. He will require some exercise and mental stimulation games each day, and he is easily entertained with toys and chews. He would do well in a home with existing dogs that he could have play sessions with to help burn those short spurts of puppy energy, but would do just fine as they only pet in the home as long as he gets lots of time to spend cuddling and playing with his human. He would love to have a laid back, fun family that enjoys the outdoors and exploring nature. He is very curious and loves to check out his surroundings when he is scoping out new parts of his foster mom's backyard, so he would be a great pup to join a family that enjoys going on hikes or walks on nature trails.
Kahlo is dog, cat and kid friendly. He is a social butterfly that gets along with every human, dog or cat he comes across. He is non-confrontational and submissive when he is corrected by the resident dogs in the home, and responds to their body language when it comes to playtime. He would be a great addition to a home with existing pets because he is so laid back and understands how to respect other animals' personal space. If he were the only dog in the home, he would greatly benefit from having frequent doggy play dates or going to doggy day care a couple of times a week to continue his socialization as he grows. He is very gentle and on the calmer side when he is interacting with humans, and very very affectionate, so we know this sweet boy would be a great fit for a family with children of all ages and would love to have some little humans to give lots of puppy kisses to.
Kahlo is kennel and playpen trained. He is potty pad trained and is doing great with learning his potty schedule now that he has transitioned to going outside. He will need to have a structured schedule in his forever home to help him continue to excel in his outside potty training. He will still need work on leash training once he goes to his forever home. He is a very smart boy, but also can be very silly. He is very food motivated, so using treats during training sessions would help him master more training skills. He would love to have a fun, laid back family that would take him on lots of fun outings where he could socialize and be able to explore the outdoors. His ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard that he can run around and play in. He would do well in an apartment, townhouse or condo as long as he gets a couple of walks or exercise sessions each day as he grows.
If you are interested in adopting Kahlo, please fill out an application.
Kahlo is in a foster home in Central Texas and will be transported once adopted. He cannot be adopted in Canada at this time due to his age. He will have a $200 REFUNDABLE neuter deposit on top of his adoption and transport fee that will be either paid directly to your vet at the time of his procedure or refunded back to the adopter once the procedure is complete.
TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back.
Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets.
The total cost to adopt is $830, which includes a $400 adoption fee, a $230 transport fee, and a $200 REFUNDABLE neuter deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
