Meet Kaya
Kaya is a super sweet, cuddly 9 week old Shepherd and possible lab mix that weighs 7 lbs. She is estimated to be around 40 lbs once she is fully grown. This girl is the sweetest, cuddliest pup ever. She loves to be held and snuggled on by her foster mom, and her favorite place in the world is wherever her human is. She loves to play with her siblings and the resident dogs in her foster home, but when she gets the chance to crawl in her foster mom's lap for cuddle time, she never passes that up. She can be very silly and loves to roll on her back and toss her toys up when she's playing. Her bright personality really shines when she is around her humans and she would be perfect for a family that wants a laid back, loving pup that they can cuddle and snuggle all the time.
Kaya is a lower energy puppy. She is laid back, but has short spurts of puppy energy where she will get the zoomies and run around in the backyard for a few minutes before coming back inside to find herself a comfy spot to curl up and nap. She will require some exercise and mental stimulation games, but for the most part, she keeps herself busy with her toys and puzzle games that involve food when her foster mom is working from home. She would love to have a laid back, fun family that enjoys the outdoors. She is very curious and loves to explore, so she would be a great pup to join a family that enjoys going on hikes or walks on nature trails.
Kaya is dog, cat and kid friendly. She can be a bit shy at first, but once she is comfortable, she turns into a social butterfly. She loves every human, dog or cat she meets. She is submissive when she is corrected by the resident dogs in the home, and responds to their body language when it comes to playtime. She would do well in a home with existing dogs that she could have play sessions with to help burn those short spurts of puppy energy and would transition in seamlessly as she is very calm, gentle and understands how to respect other animals' personal space. If she were the only dog in the home, she would greatly benefit from having frequent doggy play dates or going to doggy day care a couple of times a week to continue her socialization as she grows. Because of her calm, gentle nature, we know this sweet, cuddly girl would be a great fit for a family with children of all ages and she would love to have some little humans to shower with affection.
Kaya is kennel and playpen trained. She is potty pad trained and is doing great with learning her potty schedule now that she has transitioned to going outside. She will need to have a structured schedule in her forever home to help her continue to excel in her outside potty training. She will still need work on leash training once she goes to her forever home. She is very smart and observant, so we know training will be a breeze with this girl. She is food motivated and praise motivated, so using both of those positive reinforcement training techniques will help her master more training skills. She would love to have a fun, laid back family that will take her on lots of fun outings where she could explore the outdoors before going back home to cuddle and snuggle on the couch. Her ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard that she can run around and play in. She would do well in an apartment, townhouse or condo as long as she gets a couple of walks or exercise sessions each day as she grows.
If you are interested in adopting Kaya, please fill out an application.
Kaya is in a foster home in Central Texas and will be transported once adopted. She cannot be adopted in Canada at this time due to her age. She will have a $200 REFUNDABLE spay deposit on top of her adoption and transport fee that will be either paid directly to your vet at the time of her procedure or refunded back to the adopter once the procedure is complete.
TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back.
Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets.
The total cost to adopt is $830, which includes a $400 adoption fee, a $230 transport fee, and a $200 REFUNDABLE spay deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
