Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved.
If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs.
IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply.
If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board.
We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Kenzy, 2yr old, spayed female, labrador retriever mix, 36 pounds.
Kenzy is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Kenzy and her two siblings were housed at the county shelter when we were notified of the family; while we were working to get plans in place for the whole family, Kenzy's siblings were euthanized.
We've since learned that without the comfort and security of another dog, poor Kenzy is unsure how to navigate being in a home environment.
Thankfully, Kenzy is very dog friendly - she loves running around and playing, falling into line with the group with ease - and her ideal home will have a resident dog or established pack.
She is still shy and quiet, and needs the assurance from another dog on how to "dog" in this world.
Kenzy has been in a foster home with many dogs - large and small - and she plays with them all.
She is a medium energy girl, she plays until she's done and then goes off to find a quiet place to rest - like under a table.
:) While her foster mom works, Kenzy is often found curled up with the other dogs chilling or napping.
Kenzy has exhibited no issues with meeting dogs on/off a leash and walks calmly next to you with only the standard "I'm excited to go out for a walk" pulling.
After being in the home for months now, the foster trusts Kenzy to be off leash.
She doesn't play much with toys so there have been no issues there, and she has additionally displayed no negative behaviors around food or treats.
We have no history with cats or kids but given her calm demeanor, we do not anticipate any issues with children.
We typically recommend a home with kids aged 10 years or older, or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues.
Although she does warm up, Kenzy is shy and still uncomfortable with "in your face" affection, so very young children should be supervised around her to ensure she's given time and space.
Kenzy is crated at night and when unable to be supervised.
She feels safe and sometimes prefers going to her kennel for respite, and has shown no separation anxieties or destructive behavior.
Kenzy is house and doggy door trained but until she learns the ropes of the house, she may have an accident or two.
Kenzy's ideal home doesn't need to be overly active or work from home but should have a dog or two in the house.
She will need someone willing to be patient and allow her to set the pace but giving her the confidence to tackle new things.
She is a beautiful sweet girl with a gentle spirit - she just needs time to get used to you.
The best way to win over her heart is through her stomach as having treats on hand are a surefire way to lure Kenzy to approach for pets and hellos.
