Meet Lance
Lance is a prime example of the Cairn Terrier, a breed known for its spirited nature, rough and rugged appearance, and storied history originating from the Scottish Highlands. Standing at a petite stature, he carries the typical small, but sturdy frame of his breed, built for endurance and agility. His shaggy, weather-resistant double coat is a mix of colors, ranging from brindle, black, sand, and grey – a camouflage that once helped his ancestors hide amidst the Scottish landscape while they hunted for pests.
The distinct facial features of Lance are characterized by an alert expression, sharp eyes that seem to capture every movement, and a pronounced nose that can pick up the faintest of scents. His pointed ears stand erect, always ready to catch the faintest whisper of activity.
But beyond his appearance, what makes Lance so captivating is his personality. True to his Cairn Terrier heritage, he is fearless, assertive, and always up for an adventure. While he might be small, he doesn't seem to be aware of his size, always ready to take on challenges that even bigger dogs might hesitate to face. His boundless energy is contagious, making him the center of attention in any gathering. But, after an active day, Lance can be found curled up, showing his softer, affectionate side, seeking out a comforting lap or a cozy corner.
Historically, Cairn Terriers like Lance were bred to hunt and chase quarry between the cairns in the Scottish Highlands. This hunting instinct is still alive in him, as he can't resist chasing after a moving toy or playfully stalking birds in the park. While his hunting days are behind him, his inquisitive nature is ever-present.
Training Lance requires a touch of patience and a lot of positive reinforcement. Cairn Terriers are known for their independent streak, and while he's eager to please, he often has his own ideas about how things should be done. It's this unique blend of tenacity, intelligence, and charm that endears Lance to anyone fortunate enough to spend time with him.
