Luigi is a beautiful 2 year old German Shepherd mix who may have been a lonely, curious puppy as he was found wandering the streets twice before we rescued him.
Now, Luigi has spent over a year of his short life at Home Fur Good and he really wants to go home.
But taking on an under-socialized puppy requires patience and time and work and he has not met his forever family just yet.
Luigi knows to sit when asked, but he does not understand the leash and that has been his main struggle when meeting new people.
Unless Luigi knows and trusts you, he is not letting you come anywhere near his neck with any sort of leash or harness.
He still exhibits signs of fear with new people and things, sometimes crouching timidly, or offering a mild sneer.
But once he DOES know you and trust you, he is a goofball who just wants to play fetch and hear you laugh.
He calms down for pets and enjoys chewing a toy by your side.
He wants to please and we have learned that time and familiarity are going to be integral to Luigi's success.
His ideal family (whether it's a single person, a couple, or a group) will benefit from meeting Luigi a few times at the shelter until he feels confident enough to go home.
Luigi does not like sitting still and would thrive with walks and hikes and an active lifestyle.
The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital.
Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm by appointment.
