Mace Aster

Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved.

If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs.

If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board.

We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.

Mace Aster, 10-month-old, neutered male, mountain cur mouth cur/ labrador retriever mix, 55 pounds.

Mace is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Sweet Mace- Mace is a big lover.

He is a very observant pup; he is the most reserved of his brothers and has a laid-back personality.

He will jump in to play with his brothers occasionally but seems to prefer leaning against his person and getting pets.

He also prefers being inside with his family over being outside for long periods of time.

He is SWEET with his honey-colored eyes and easy-going smile.

He is smart, has already learned his "sit" command with treat motivation and seems very ball and treat-motivated for training Mace occasionally wants to play but he seems to lose interest quicker than his brothers.

He can be vocal and growl sometimes while playing but he's just animated, never aggressive.

He's a lower- to average-energy when playing and picks up on cues to stop.

He's been around his brothers (~55lbs) and has had an introduction with a Shitzu puppy (very small)- he wagged his tail and sniffed her, then paid her no more attention while on their walk.

He lives in a foster home with cats but we're not sure if he's cat friendly just yet.

He barks and wants to chase the cats when he sees them, and the cats run away before they actually encounter one another.

The cats and Major are kept separated by baby gates.

He calms down when playing with his foster's dog, and when meeting people or children.

He's met the foster's 9yr old daughter and does great with her.

He does jump up occasionally, forgetting his size, but he has a gentle nature and sweet temperament that makes us think he could do okay around even younger children.

Mace tends to pull and zig zag on leash, especially if he catches a scent.

He enjoys being ahead of you and pulls most when he is walking with his brothers.

He needs some leash/"heel" training for sure but he's so smart, he'll be better on leash in no time.

He likes to sniff things and explore, so often will cross in front, go around or behind, step down into the street or pull.

Mace Aster is nearly house trained and has not had any accidents in the house - he alerts when he needs to go.

He will put his paws up on the counter to see what's up there and jump on and off the back of the couch while playing.

He is crate trained but often whines/barks when his foster enters or leaves the room, although he is getting better at this and calms down a little quicker every day Mace lacks a sense of personal space, so he will often jump up on you, lick your face, and actively seek out affection.

He loves cuddles and pets so much that he may enjoy being the only dog, but we think would do better having a sibling since he doesn't like being alone.

He is always the first one to be at the back door to be let inside.

He will whine, sit at the door or put his paws up on the windows, playing up the puppy dog eyes to be near you again.

He enjoys sleeping next to his foster on the couch and does really great with strangers.

Mace Aster would thrive in a mildly active home - while he enjoys his walks, he's not really the "high energy" type.

His ideal home is with a nurturing family who can give Mace lots of pets and cuddles; a home with a yard where he can play and a family who takes him on walks and/or could bring him along hiking, to parks, etc.

His forever home would be patient with his puppy antics (lack of personal space, love nips, etc.) and willing to invest time in training his bad habits through routine and structure.

He is very attentive to his human and loves snacks, so training is made much simpler.

He responds well to gentle corrective measures and seeks to please but just needs more reinforcement in acceptable outlets for his lab energy.

***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.

We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time.
