Meet Mango
I was saved from euthanasia after a car hit me and seriously injured my leg.
I'm an adorable 3-year-old German Shepherd dog who received care to fix my front paw that was broken in several places in an accident. I'm so sweet that the people at the hospital kept me for a long time to find an organization willing to rescue me. Now I'm healed and my basic care is complete. I'm ready for my new life.
Those who know me say I'm a people-pleaser, that I'm gentle and calm if I get enough exercise to exhaust my energy properly on a daily basis. I hardly ever bark and it's easy to get my attention when I'm calm. I do, however, get super excited when we have visitors at my foster mom's house! I tug at her pants or t-shirt with my teeth. I find it hard to control myself at times like that!
I need a calm family who knows the basics of positive reinforcement to help me react better when I meet new human friends. I'm very loving and playful. I do need something to chew on when we have visitors because I get too excited. I try to eat the children's toys, and it becomes difficult to divert my attention at such times. Good supervision will be necessary and guests will have to ignore me as much as possible.
I enjoy sleeping with people and sitting on them. I even give kisses when I feel like it. On the other hand, I jump when humans come home. Despite my size, I'm very gentle with young children, and I don't show any signs of possessive behaviour towards food or my toys.
I'm a big mischievous doggo: I want to steal people's food. I sometimes steal food from young children. I've also been known to jump up on the table and stand on the counter to eat leftovers. So I have to be isolated during mealtime and you should avoid leaving anything lying around on surfaces accessible to me. I can also open apartment building doors. You'll have to be very careful that I don't try to escape from home, as I was hit by a vehicle after running away.
I don't know how to walk on a leash, so I'd like to find a family with a fenced yard who can help me work on leash walking. Outdoors, I'm reactive to dogs, cats, and small animals, so my leash needs to be held tightly. Outings are a bit "rock'n roll" so I'm looking for someone who's ready to handle that and who won't get discouraged easily. With hard work, I can be helped to progress with this!
My plan for charming my future family? Give them lots of love, lie on my back and wriggle from side to side! We'll enjoy the outdoors together; I love playing ball and basking in the sun! I'm looking for humans who want to spend a lot of time with me and are willing to keep a close eye on me. So, are we a match?
