Meet Marnie, our beautiful 52 lbs., 2 year-old “puppy.” She spent almost 2 years on her own, indoors and outdoors, without socialization or puppy training.
Thus, she still exhibits some puppy behaviors like jumping and anxiety over new experiences and noises.
We sent Marnie to a training facility to work on manners and confidence building.
While it takes a little time to trust new people and experiences, she formed a tight-knit bond with her trainer, who in turn has identified many positive attributes for Marnie.
These include: smart, energetic, playful, loves to explore, enjoys walks, hikes, and runs, loves a good game of tug, but not so much into fetch.
She is up for any outdoor adventures, but equally happy to spend the day lounging indoors.
She follows gentle leash corrections and walks well with other dogs.
She is quiet if a passing dog is quiet, but barks, play bows if a passing dog barks.
In a home, she enjoys mental stimulation puzzles, receiving belly rubs, and exploring her back yard.
She is receptive to training.
She paws the door when she needs to go out for a break, so no accidents.
She does not protect her food bowl.
But she might chew her dog bed if she gets bored.
And she barks to get attention, but will quiet down if ignored, and with commands.
She is a rambunctious player with other dogs.
She loves to chase or be chased.
But her demands for playing can be overwhelming to another dog and she can play too rough.
She can enjoy a quick trip to a dog park, but we will look for a quiet home where she will be the only fur baby, and no children.
She still lacks complete confidence and can be anxious with new experiences or people.
Adopters should be prepared to go slow on introducing new activities and be committed to continue her training.
