Mars, 6 years old, spayed female, Pitbull Terrier mix, 55 pounds. She is in a foster home in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport to an approved adopter.
Mars was first found by a networker who did street feeding. Mars was with a group of dogs who were eventually picked up Animal Control. Shortly after arriving to the shelter, she was put on the euthanasia list. The person who had been feeding her reached out for us to help her and another dog she was on the streets with.
A few weeks into rescuing Mars, we discovered she was pregnant. She had a difficult delivery which resulted in an emergency hysterectomy and spay surgery. She lost all but one of her puppies :( It was also noted she had some masses that once she healed from this surgery, we did a follow up. The masses were removed and were found to be not cancerous!!
Her puppy has since been adopted and it's Mars turn to find a loving home of her own.
She is an incredibly sweet dog. She enjoys going on walks and has medium energy. She LOVES to nap in the lazy boy chair in the house. She really really loves her humans.
She shares another home with a dog and does well with her. Her foster home is in a rural area, so they do not see other dogs when out on walks. We think she would do well with another dog who did not want to play all the time. She would also do great as the only dog.
No cats. She has been around kids as young as 7 years old and does wonderful. We recommend a home with kids who respect animal boundaries.
Mars is fully housebroken and does well when crated. She has been with her foster home long enough that they feel comfortable leaving her out of a crate when unsupervised. She's had no issues.
She does resource guard her food from other dogs, so if a resident dog would need to feed separate. She has no issues with toys around other dogs. She has no issues with people and her food, toys, treats etc.
She rides great in the car and does wonderful meeting new people. She is very sweet, loves pets and snuggles. She's had a lot of medical follow up and there are no ongoing medical issues.
