Meet Max the handsome Husky mix.
Max arrived from a northern community near Nunavut where he was surrendered so he could find a home of his own. He is living in a foster home with another dog and we have lots of information about him we can share with interested parties.
He is approximately 3 years old but really still just a large 75 lb. puppy. He loves to be with people and to spend plenty of time outdoors. He will settle at your feet and likes to be scratched behind the ears but if it's time for a walk he'll beat you to the door. Max loves a routine and he will gently remind you if you are late with a walk or a meal!
He needs a home with a fully fenced yard and a family willing to take him out regularly, continue to work on his manners and that is fit enough to handle a strong dog. If Max had his way, that home would be a quiet home in the country!
Max has mastered many skills. He knows sit, paw, down, wait and place. He's working on "drop it" and "heel". He is food driven and hangs out in the kitchen whenever meals are being prepared. He walks well on leash but expect him to be very interested in squirrels, rabbits and skunks! He can be quite vocal and will bark when he's excited so will need a home with no shared walls.
Given his prey drive we are not recommending him for a home with cats or other small pets. Max currently lives with another dog and he is generally very good with a housemate. We think he would appreciate being in a home with another calm dog, following appropriate introductions. He is generally not reactive to other dogs but he needs more socialization and to learn to respect other dog's space.
We are not recommending him for a home with young children, but we think that he could do well in a home with respectful, dog-savvy teenagers. He needs to learn to respect other dogs, their food and their space, but this is about manners which he will learn. We think he would love to live with an easy-going large breed dog.
