Mowgli, 1.5 years old, neutered male, Retriever mix, 45 pounds. He is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport to an approved adopter. Please note, he is physically located in the state of Texas.
Mowgli's story starts with a community coming together to save his life- twice. He was found in a drainage canal where he was stuck for 3 days. The community came together and was able to pull him out of the canal. There was no place for him to go, so he was brought to the city shelter in Houston. In a few days, he was placed on the euthanasia list. Once again, his community showed up and a foster came forward to save his life!
As you can imagine, it took a little of time for Mowgli to build trust with his foster mom. We expect this to happen again in his adoptive home. This means he will need a home who is comfortable giving him some space initially and allowing him the time he needs to feel comfortable. He will approach people and really likes when they have treats to give him. We do not expect him to jump on the couch and seek affection right away. With some time, he will show you how sweet he is and his complete devotion.
Mowgli will need another dog in the home. He follows their lead and gains a lot of confidence from his four legged friend. He is very friendly and has met many dogs during his time in foster care. He goes to a doggy daycare a few days a week. There are also dogs in his foster home and a puppy next door who visits often.
Until he opens up, he tends to be cautious and is not overly affectionate. Once he learns he is safe, he will show you what an enthusiastic and charming young pup he truly is!
He has learned how to take treats gently. He has a beautiful and soft coat. He knows sit and walks well on leash. He does not pull on leash, but needs some help walking in a straight line. He is potty trained and has no issues in his crate.
He enjoys lounging and practicing his yoga poses. He is on the lower end of moderate energy. He will play/interact with other dogs and enjoys his walks. When he plays in a group of dogs, he tends to blend in but does not engage in as much play. He will generally hang off to the side observing and is very comfortable with others coming up to say hi.
He has met kids and we think would do best with kids 8 years and older.
We have no history with cats.
