When living circumstances change and there are pets in the home, the easiest way to get rid of them is to just toss them out to the street, quit feeding them and not allow them to come inside the house.
This was sadly the case with this dog, that suddenly became homeless and hopeless until Nayeli saw her roaming on the streets, full of ticks and fleas, with small wounds on her body, hungry and thirsty.
Nayeli got the owners to officially surrender her to the shelter and she was immediately taken into care.
Her first trip was to the vet’s office to get checked and tested, and fortunately, besides being weak, she was in good health.
Niña is a female mixed breed who looks like she may have some St Bernard in her from her coloring, which is about 3 years old and weighs approximately 25 kilos.
Niña is a more submissive girl, she gets along well with all humans as well as the other dogs in the shelter and dogs she meets on her walks, she can be tested with cats if necessary.
She can be a little protective with her food bowl, however being that she lives with 60 other dogs this isn't uncommon and could very well go away in a home where she doesn't have as much chaos around her while she is eating.
Feeding her separately until she gains more confidence with food is a very easy solution.
She has no problem sharing toys or her favorite comfy spots with other dogs.
When people come in the shelter, she wants to be the first one to greet and loves getting the attention first.
She can be a little bossy with the others if she’s not the first in line, but she is also bigger than lots of them so can march her way through if she wants.
Niña is quite friendly, but it can take a bit for her to fully gain confidence with people.
This is often the case for a lot of rescued dogs, so a family who adopts her will just need to take things at her pace and they will be wonderfully surprised by how loving she is as she grows comfortable.
She has no issues meeting new people and will very quickly melt in your lap when she realizes you want to be friends.
She loves ear scratches, belly rubs and is a softy, that is ready to love her new family.
She would do great in a home with a yard to run around and probably another dog to play with.
She would be a wonderful companion for almost any type of home and would make a great family dog.
The adoption fee for Niña is $500 and includes flight, spay, vaccines, and full vetting.
She can be on a flight, if a foster or adoptive home is found.
