To put it quite simply this young boy was almost dead when we got him out of the shelter. He weighed 6.42 pounds. We knew what was wrong, FIP. After six weeks of daily treatments for his illness he was over 10 pounds. He is now over 11.5 pounds and is still growing. He loves food and is putting all his calories into his long legs and long body. He is going to be a very big cat. His coat is thickening some but maybe because it is summer it is not his priority right now. That is a polite way of saying his coat is a bit disreputable and doesn't match the beauty of his eyes. The shelter shaved his tummy and you can see the hair there has not grown in yet at all. His hind end was fairly bare from excessive flea scratching and is still lagging behind. (No pun intended)
Many folks have heard that there is treatment for FIP (Feline Infection Peritonitis), a dread illness that used to be inevitably fatal. While it is not yet FDA approved, all over the world people are obtaining the medicine known as GS and giving it to their cats. It was an immediate life saver for Nico. Magic. I have heard that UC Davis is working to bring it to market. I hope so. Nico's last dose is 7/31.
