Meet Nieko

NIEKO is a happy, affectionate 3 year old Australian Shepherd mix looking for his own humans to love. Likes to get attention, cuddle, get pet, eat soft treats and chase grasshoppers / lizards in the yard.

He has a medium energy level usually napping or watching out the window while you work, but really enjoys his daily walks.

Gets very excited to go for a walk when you get his leash out and bounces when he runs.
Housetrained with great house manners.
Has not shown any destructive behavior inside or outside.

Crate trained, but doesn't need to be crated.
Dog friendly. He's not interested in playing or running with other dogs, but gets along with them.
Child friendly, but does not seek out the attention of children.
He is tolerant of children running around and petting him.
We are recommending children over 10 years old.
Nieko takes 'tug of war' seriously, not aggressively, but that can be too much for young children.

Sleeps through the night in his foster's room.
Working on loose leash walking as he can be curious about the environment and can pull on leash a bit.
Would need training to be off leash.
Knows basic commands 'sit, lay down' and working on 'stay'.
Rides well in the car, looking out the window, but would try to help drive, in your lap if he gets the chance.
Not a big barker, but will alert you to the doorbell.
Could be a good dog to take to work, with his calmer, laid back energy.
Was shy at first but now follows his foster mom around and likes to sit in her lap.
Will be a great family dog, but he will bond to the person who spends the most time with him.
He prefers not to be bothered when eating and likes water / canned food added to his kibble.
Watermelon, broccoli and scrambled eggs are favorites too. .
Only homes with a fully fenced 6+ foot fence will be considered, because he can jump high.
The vacuum doesn't bother him, but he does not like the blow dryer.
His long, soft fur needs to be brushed often, at least weekly. He enjoys it, so it's not a chore.
Will not be adopted to a home with cats or small critters.

Nieko is 44 lbs, neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, including rabies, heartworm negative and current on prevention.

*In addition to his adoption fee, this sweet boy can be transported to CO, OR or WA for an additional fee.
