Meet Niko
Meet Niko! Niko is a shy boy that just needs a family that understands he’s still building his confidence. Doing outdoor intros are best as he can get used to a new person on neutral ground. He loves treats (especially peanut butter twists and freeze dried salmon squares) and will take some from a new person, so this helps. Niko just gets scared and may react out of fear if his space (his home) isn’t respected. He hasn’t had any issues with this since coming back into our care.
Out on walks he can be unsure of new people too, more so males it seems, if they’re doing something he is unsure of. When seeing other dogs on walks he may pull and want to see them, but once close he doesn’t quite know how to initiate play - he’s still trying to figure out how to dog! He is working on crate training and this needs to be continued to ensure he is set up for success in the future to give him a safe space.
Not necessary, but a confident fur sibling in the home that is good with its people will help with his fears. The dogs that he’s met have been well balanced and he did well. He is still learning how to play but can be submissive. Using his food at mealtime is a good way to build that bond and to practice some training to help with his confidence in the home. He may be timid and shy at first but as long as his new family will advocate for him on every new visitor interaction Niko will continue to grow.
