Meet Nova
NOVA IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! PAWS PRISON PROGRAM GRADUATE!
Nova is a sweet loving girl at her core, but the world around her can be very scary. Her short life has been spent living within the shelter system, which is a very uncertain place to grow up as a puppy, she is not quite a year old yet. It is very apparent that she has had little to no exposure to the outside world. Until she had the opportunity to attend the PAWs program she hadn't experienced confident leadership from anyone. Nova did amazingly well up at the PAWs program, but now that she is back in the environment she started in, it is really taking a toll.
Nova will need a confident person who will take the time to expose her to the world in a slow and controlled way to make sure that her experiences are positive ones. Her anxious mind races a million miles a minute and she will need to learn to work through that instead of trying to escape it. When Nova is scared she tries to run away. Because of this, physical touch and leashing in confined spaces, before she trusts you, is one of her main fears because there is nowhere to go and no way to create space for herself. Nova has also shown a greater fear towards men, but that is not to say that without patience and trust she won't come around. She proved at the PAWs program that she is willing to open up and face her fears, as long as her person is there to guide her safely and confidently through it.
When Nova lets her guard down she is just like any other playful puppy! She enjoys playing with toys, she is very food motivated and is just all around a fun goofy girl. She would love an active family, maybe someone who loves to run or hike! She is dog friendly and would LOVE a very playful and confident playmate who can also help show her the world isn't so bad! She is very much still a puppy and would need a friend who could keep up with her playfulness as well as teach her some rules of the playground. She doesn't always get the memo when another pup is done playing.
Dogs like Nova may not always be the easiest at the beginning but they truly are worth it. The bond you build with a dog as you navigate and overcome their fears and anxieties solidify a love that goes unmatched for a lifetime.
