Meet Powder
ONE MAN'S TRASH IS ANOTHER MAN'S TREASURE AND THIS DOG IS A BEAUTIFUL, PRECIOUS GEM.
We found Powder at our local shelter where he had been picked up as a stray in a neighboring town. He had been there for nearly two months and as sure as his nose is pink, we have no idea why.
This dog is gentle, sensitive and completely amazing.
He is not exactly what you would call a gusher. As a matter of fact, when you first meet him, you might even feel a little "snubbed". Perhaps that is why he was getting looked over. If he doesn't know you, he is polite but not overly interested and even a bit bored acting so people looking to adopt a dog that was bursting with gratitude for being considered, might not have been very impressed with Powder's nonchalance but when he decides you are his person, that is when his magnificence shows. You will never doubt who his heart belongs to, once he has gifted you with it.
Powder is about 3 years old and weighs close to 90 pounds and moves with the beautiful ease and grace German Shepherds are known for, turning heads, wherever he goes. He has proven to enjoy car rides and is a good traveler and likes his walks around his neighborhood or local hiking trails and parks, where he will sniff out of curiosity, as much as you will let him. While not real experienced on a leash, he is not a big puller or a chore to walk and does not yank or pull to see other dogs or people, as they go by plus he will only get better with practice because he enjoys being a good boy.
At home, Powder lives with another German Shepherd male and several kitties (his foster takes in kittens as well) and shows both great respect. He should do well with other dogs and kitties but would probably prefer them to be as chill as he is. We have not yet had him around children so will hold off on calling him family friendly for now. He appears to be housebroken and has followed the lead of his new German Shepherd friend, coming and going, inside and out like an old pro. He enjoys sitting outside on the deck and surveying the yard but is learning to be just as comfortable inside, at the foot of his foster. He also has a bit of a toy addiction, so be prepared to fill that toy box up with lots of fun things, and to have it emptied, several times a day.
Because of his two months at the shelter, Powder is not a big fan of being crated but his foster reports that she has left him loose in her home for short trips to the store or appointments and comes home to a house, just the way she left it. As he comes to understand his change of fortune, he will probably reconsider the crate as more of a man cave than a trap but for now, if given a choice, he chooses to avoid it.
The potential in this dog is unlimited. The person who invests their time in him, will not have their time wasted. He is a sponge, waiting for direction and purpose and has naturally great manners along with a chill, relaxed demeanor to build upon. Plus, how can you not fall in love with that incredibly boopable pink nose and those lovely pink ears.
To meet this classy guy, go to our website and submit our online application. We would love to hear your plans for making him the best dog you have ever had because he deserves nothing less.
In the interest of total transparency, Powder was returned to us after a year with his first adopter because they just never meshed. Powder can have confidence issues and his adopter struggled to give him the firm, structured handling, he thrives on. Back in his foster home, he's the same unassuming, easy going guy he was prior to adoption so we're fling to insist on confident, experienced people with structured, boundary based training philosophies.
Powder is neutered, vaccinated against Bordatella, Parvo, Leptospirosis, Distemper and Rabies, flea/tick treated, microchipped and is being treated for giardia. All you need to do is take
Two years ago, somebody threw this treasure away and more recently, he was returned to be placed in a more appropriate home and now it's his time to SHINE!!
