Rex, 4 years old, neutered male, Labrador Retriever/Pibull mix, 57 pounds. He is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport to an approved adopter.
Rex and his buddy were saved from euthanasia at a shelter in Houston. He is a fantastic dog, looking for a home of his own.
He loves attention and has not met a stranger so far! When with his buddy, he tended to be more reserved and quiet. He has spent some time away and he is more confident and comfortable.
Rex is dog friendly and has shared a home with several other dogs and has participated in play groups at a local daycare/boarding. He does not always initiate play, but is happy to join in if someone asks him too. He is respectful of other dog's space and has great social ques. He shares his toys and has not minded if someone takes a toy from him.
He walks okay on a leash and could use a little more help in this area. He will generally stay close, but if something catches his eye he wants to pull in that direction.
He is housebroken, but did have an accident when first in the foster home (we are thinking nerves). The most important thing to note about Rex is his love/hate for the crate. He does not to be in one and will do all he can to convince you to leave him out when unsupervised. But, when left out he will find things to get into. We think some of this is stress/anxiety, so he does need to be crated during a transition. We are looking for a home who is understanding of this quirk and willing/able to manage it.
Rex loves belly rubs, giving kisses, pets and laying his head off the bed or couch. He is goofy in his own ways. He loves interactive/puzzle games and is very intelligent.
He is not a chewer and does not chew on things not intended for him when someone is home. We think he might have some hound in him too. He does not bark often, but when he does it has a baying sound. And he is always smiling! He is moderate energy.
We have no history with cats or kids. Based on his demeanor we recommend a home with kids 10 years and older.
