River is an energetic 1 year old Pyrenees/Lab cross.
She is fully house trained, kennel trained, spayed, and up to date on all of her vaccinations.
She is a large sized dog true to her breed, and weighs about 85 lbs.
She has endless amounts of energy to play tug, chase, or will entertain herself with toys or a good chew.
River is extremely goofy and affectionate.
Once you are a safe person to her, she has so much love to give and will follow you from room to room to ensure that she doesn’t miss out on spending time with you.
She wants to sit in the living room and watch TV with you, watch you cook in the kitchen, keep you company in the office while you work on a laptop, lay in the grass while you do yard work, sit in the car while you run errands, you name it! She has done well so far with all of the dogs that she has met up until this point.
Even though the resident middle-aged dogs want nothing to do with her silly puppy shenanigans, she has done quite well with respecting their space and boundaries even with all of her puppy energy.
While she would do well as an only dog, Riv would LOVE another playful, well-balanced dog to play with in her forever home.
She is still learning to share toys and bones with other dogs, but does very well with food around the other dogs in her foster home and is respectful of other dogs’ space during mealtimes.
She currently eats her meals out of puzzle toys to help slow her down which she really enjoys.
She travels well in a car and absolutely loves car rides so she can stick her nose out the window to take in as many smells as possible.
She also sleeps in her kennel every night and will stay in the kennel when her foster human is gone to work.
River is still working on some of her manners.
She is still working on understanding personal space and awareness of her size, so she is still learning not to jump and not mouthing when she is excited.
She is very much just still a silly puppy who is learning new skills! River also LOVES her walks and she does okay on leash.
We are still figuring out how to keep our cool when we see others doggos or (even better!) bunnies on our walks.
This is a work in progress but she has come a very long way.
The most important thing to know about River is that she is quite scared of strangers/new people, especially men, and has quite a loud bark that she uses to let you know that she is scared.
This can be pretty intimidating at first meeting, since she is a big girl and will run up to new people with her big scary bark which can last a couple of minutes.
We have found a routine that allows her to meet new people successfully and after a few treats, some sniffs, and reassurance from her humans she knows that she is safe to make new friends! True to her Pyrenees breed/guardian dog instincts, Riv has some pretty big feelings about people and other dogs walking by her house, so she is an avid window barker and needs a secure yard.
To support her with this, her forever family may need to cover her line of view in the windows and will need to make sure they have a tall fence that blocks line of vision to the street.
Because of her fear of strangers, she won’t be a social butterfly that will enjoy going everywhere and anywhere to be around new people all the time (but then again, who does?!).
She is a girl who thrives in a routine/predictable environment with regular exercise and loves to be around her humans and canine buddies.
River has not been around children and based on her energy and her size, she would do best in a home without small children at this time.
She has been introduced to the resident cats on a couple of occasions, but is quite interested and thinks it is fun to chase them.
She would potentially be okay with proper introductions, but again, based on her size, energy levels, and lack of awareness of personal space she may be a better fit for a kitty-free home.
River is a very wonderful dog with endless amounts of love and affection to give to her people.
She would do so well in an active home that has the patience to continue building on all of the skills she has been developing and show her that the world isn’t such a scary place.
We aren’t sure what she experienced before finding her as a stray, so she needs some extra patience and love to learn that most humans are pretty great! Adoption fee is $295.
She is spayed, microchipped, dewormed and current on vaccines.
