Romeo

Background

Romeo was a street dog in Mexico that was hanging out outside one of our spay/neuter campaigns. He was there every day. He was so friendly and loyal, that we decided to bring him in to be neutered. We could not bear to return him to the streets to fend for himself again, so we decided to take him to the shelter and find him a loving home. He was brought to Canada on Dec 5th via the Dog-Go project.

Personality

Romeo is a down-to-earth companion, blending excitement with affection seamlessly. His gentle energy makes him a tireless explorer, always up for a good sniff and some low-key playtime. What truly captures his attention? Engaging in playful, food-motivated mental training sessions—nothing too fancy, just good ol' fun! During chew time, Romeo showcases surprising gentleness, making it a joy to share moments with him. Interacting with people is where he shines, effortlessly winning hearts with his friendly demeanor. He's steadily making dog friends, especially with his foster sibling, and his eagerness to play with other dogs is unmistakable during walks.

Training

Romeo is a training superstar! His "sit" and "down" commands are practically second nature, and he's acing "leave it" while adding some flair with "touch" and "spin." Working on "place" and door thresholds, he's a smart learner. Romeo is on the lookout for an active and patient owner to keep his brilliant mind engaged. He is crate trained.

Activities and Favourites

The mere mention of a walk sends Romeo into a tail-wagging frenzy. On his 30-45 minute walks, his love for sniffing takes center stage, turning every outing into a thrilling adventure. Introducing puzzle-treat toys brought out his inner genius, providing the perfect challenge. Teething toys and empty Kongs are his go-to favorites, especially when he associates them with the promise of tasty treats. With his incredibly high food drive, Romeo turns treat time into a hilarious spectacle—his eagerness even led to a treat pouch raid!

Ideal Home

Romeo is not just a one-person charmer – he's a family superstar and he'd thrive in a bustling household but is currently doing great in a one-person home. Even in the midst of lively gatherings, Romeo handles the noise like a champ, showcasing his sweet and gentle demeanour. Noisy appliances during bedtime? No problem for Romeo! Quick to pick up commands, he's proven to be remarkably obedient in the short time he’s been in his foster home.
