Meet Roux the Amazing Heeler
Meet Roux!
This striking boy is a Blue Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) mix and was born around November 15, 2022. He currently weighs around 30 lbs and is up to date on his vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is neutered.
Roux is currently being fostered (in Houston area) in a home with other dogs and cats and he loves the other dogs and upon meeting the cat, his foster mom said he was a bit scared :) He has also been around children and does very well, not jumping on them, seemingly knowing that they are small and more fragile.
His foster mom wrote a brief description of Roux:
Roux is a high energy dog who loves to play! He could play fetch for hours if you let him. He gets along with other dogs and loves to run and tussle with them but is a little scared and timid at first. He is also the same with meeting new people, being initially shy and reserved, but once he realizes that he is in no danger, he quickly comes out of his shell and is a friend to everyone! Roux is being taught basic commands and already knows how to sit and lay down. He is kennel trained and house trained. He is very smart and when training, prefers affection and praise over treats. Roux has been given multiple "puzzle" games to occupy his mind and to challenge him, however, none of these games seem to be much of a puzzle as he always quickly figures them out. Roux enjoys being outside in the sun, loves the pool, and really likes exploring new areas.
Although Roux is an active boy who loves running and playing, he bonds quickly to his "humans" and thrives on being close to them and receiving lots of attention and snuggles.
Blue Heelers are a herding breed. They are very active and need a daily "job" to do in order to occupy their mind. A bored heeler can become destructive if not given the proper mental and physical exercise that this breed requires.
Roux will do best in a home that will provide plenty of physical and mental activity on a DAILY basis. If you are looking for a highly intelligent, active buddy to take on daily walks/runs or hikes, or even train for herding activities, look no further than Roux.
