Purrlease ensure you have purrmission to have a cat where you live before considering adoption!
All parties interested must meet Sammi before adoption. If you are not living in Anchorage, you must come in to Sammi before adoption. This is to ensure that everyone is in agreement with the adoption and that there is a purrfect connection.
If you are seeking a companion who is all about the love, cuddles and snuggles, then Sammi may be the purrfect girl for you! If you can purrlieve it, Sammi is 16 years strong. She is vibrant, adventurous, confident and acts just like a youngster, purrever young. Sammi found herself at our local AACC as a stray. Due to some medical concerns they reached out to AHS for rescue. Upon intake, Sammi had lab work and a full exam by our ameowzing vet and it was determined that she has Hyperthyroidism, which is treated with the medication Methimazole. This medication is administered once a day and Sammi takes her pill very easily. Her home to be will need to understand that her lab work will need to be checked based upon what the vet expects to ensure the dosage is accurate and effective.
While at the shelter, Sammi has made it clear that she would prefer as much distance from the other felines and uses her voice to let them know. She does not approach others, however if they get in her space, she lets them know purrlease back away. Sammi is really craving a home for herself where she can have laps, sunlight and love.
On 3.27.23 Sammi had a large seizure. She is currently being monitored and lab work was done to see if the cause could be determined. The lab-work did not show anything definitive, so the cause would be termed idiopathic. Sammi will need to be continued to be monitored and maintain communication with the vet in the case she has another seizure episode. Her thyroid medication has been working nicely so we are hopeful that she will continue on this path.
AHS will also purrovide behavioral support for the transition and more to ensure that everyone feels secure with the adoption.
Our adoption agreement prohibits declawing an adopted cat, and stipulates that the cat will be returned to us if the adoption does not work out. This also applies if the adopter is no longer able to keep the cat or is able to purrovide him/her with the necessary healthcare to maintain a healthy and happy life.
